  1. Specialty License

 Individuals having a Specialty License or a Specialty CSL Masonry License are allowed to work on the construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, removal, or demolition of masonry structures that require a permit. Work can be done on building types and structures:

  • Buildings used for any purpose containing less than 35,000 cubic feet
  • 1- and 2-family dwellings with any additional accessory
  • Buildings or structures for agricultural use
  • Walls less than 10 feet from the base of the footing to the top of the wall

 The validity for all three licenses is 2 years; also, you have 1 year grace period with an additional fee. Within the given period, every construction Supervisor should do the steps for renewal. Because without renewal, you can’t work further. 

 You can renew your license in three ways: 

  • Online

 Visit the official website of the government of Massachusetts for construction supervisor licenses. You have to create an account or if you already have an account, log in to complete the online renewal. 

  • Through mail

Send a renewal request through the link mentioned on the website or send a mail to the official mail id. You will get a renewal notice in your inbox after the request is sent. 

The next step is to complete and mail the renewal application, with the continuing education certificates and a check or money order payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to the address mentioned on the website. 

  • In-person

 For the renewal of the license in person, you have to visit the office along with the required documents. The office address is mentioned on the website.

 

 The things to remember before renewal: 

  • You should renew your license at least one or two months before expiration since it takes almost 5 weeks to process.
  • There is a grace period of 1 year even after your license got expired. You can renew your license at the same fee in this grace period.
  • After one year of expiration, you are supposed to pay an extra $100 along with your actual fee.
  • If you missed renewal for 2 years, you should write an exam and submit a new application for a license is required.

  1. For Unrestricted License holder – 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years
  2. Restricted license – 10 hours of continuing education every 2 years
  3. Specialty License – 6 hours of continuing education every 2 years

 The Continuing education courses are approved by the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards. The hours spent on each topic differs based on licenses as follows,
